Encouragement from Africa

Over the past six months of working on writing the StoryLine curriculum, one of the hardest things for us has been investing a lot of time and energy without much feedback. But, God has been faithful to bring encouragement and support our way just when we need it. Back in June, we reached out to Dr. Dave Scott, who directs the Children at Risk program at Fuller Theology Seminary. We wanted to talk with him about the StoryLine curriculum and get his thoughts and feedback on some of our ideas moving forward. Today, we received an email from him that was such a blessing to us both. Here is some of what he said. He also sent us a link to a video of the children dancing and singing praise. It was wonderfully encouraging for us!

I thought I should tell you that I ended up using ideas from your Psalm 96 lesson twice when meeting with kids in Rwanda. I added a component in which they all listed out the sounds that nature uses to praise God, including the wind, the ocean, the trees, and different animals. Then, we all participated in praising God using only the sounds of nature for a few minutes - no words allowed! The kids absolutely loved it, and it worked even though I was being translated. They loved it when I repeated each sound back to them. In one case, after we were done with the lesson, the regular Sunday School teacher got up and said that it was time to praise God with words again, and I filmed part of that in this video. It was an amazing experience getting to use the curriculum outside of the US and see that it still connected.
