Each StoryLine lesson includes the seven basic elements listed below. The Closing activities are flexible and may be adapted, modified or removed depending upon the time, space and other factors that are unique to each church. Please note that although they are important considerations for a Kids’ Program, ideas and suggestions of songs that kids can sing together, physical game to get wiggles out and snacks to keep energy up are not included in the StoryLine lessons.

Lesson Components

Weekly Wondering

A reflection question tied to the topic that can be used to help focus the lesson, provide points of discussion and for students to think about after they leave.

Points of Discovery & Reflection

These are possible points of learning that we hope students and teachers may discover and/or reflect upon as they go through the lesson and think about the weekly wondering.

Exploration Activity

A hands-on or sensory activity/experience connected to the lesson that is available to students when they enter the space.

Bible Story

A 10-15 minute interactive lesson to introduce, hear/read the Bible text as a larger group, and reflect together. This includes an introduction, scripture reading, and follow-up.

Small Group Discussion

Time for students and teachers to share (guided by questions) their wonderings and learnings, and a way to record their thinking and post it somewhere in the room to be looked back at throughout the unit of study. Depending on the size of the group, this can be done all together or in smaller groups.

Closing

Some suggested activities to engage children further in the theme for the day as time permits and a prayer for everyone to pray together.

Parent Handout

A weekly handout to give to parents that includes the weekly wondering, a brief summary of the Bible story and some suggested activities for follow up.
