Creation Camp 2022

In August, ahead of starting to teach the Storyline unit on creation, we had the opportunity to lead a kids’ camp for our church with a group of amazing volunteers. We are blessed to have somebody in our church with an amazing property outside of Eugene that we could use for the camp. It has wonderful natural spaces, gardens, forested areas, a pool, a trampoline, large covered gathering spaces AND an incredible tree house. We used the outdoor areas for most of the camp, and then utilized the tree house for our worship and teaching time.

We called the camp CREATION CAMP, and we capitalized on the time of year and the natural spaces around the camp property to focus on learning about, celebrating and caring for various aspects of the creation.

We taught three lessons:

Day 1: Plants and Trees - Created to Grow and Change

Day 2: Animals - Created with Differences

Day 3: Humans - Created in God’s Image

It was amazing to see how much the kids enjoyed these themes. They loved exploring the natural world with their senses, learning about various oddities of creation, and how God is revealed through it all.

Coming out of COVID, we had a group of kids that hadn’t really spent much time together as a group. Camp provided the time and space necessary for them to begin to build trust with on another through sharing, asking questions, having fun and eating together. We are excited to build on the camp experience through the next year!
